A classic man with a timeless style…
Start spreading the news | I am leaving today | I want to be a part of it | New York, New York – Frank Sinatra
If I had to define Frank Sinatra’s style in one word, it would be “simple”. Simple, yet loud. Today, he still serves as a fashion icon for men because of his timeless style and poise in a suit. Other than the hit songs that he shared with the world, he gave us the inspiration to dress as sophisticated as he did. Here is what we can take from his style:
Lessons from Frank Sinatra’s Style
Less is more.
You don’t need to wear any crazy prints or buy the most expensive items to look good. Frank Sinatra wore just what was needed.
Fit is key.
During his time, a more relaxed fit was in style, and Frank worked it. Today, a tailored/slim fit is what you are looking to achieve.
Mix and Match Patterns Correctly.
When Sinatra wore similar patterns, the sizes were different; when he wore a striped tie and suit, the tie’s stripes had a much wider width than the stripes on the suit. The same design and width would have made the outfit look tacky. More about mixing and matching patterns here.
Don’t over accessorize.
With today’s saturation of men’s accessories, people are easily tempted to go over the top. Try to keep it simple with just 2-3 accessories (for example: tie and pocket square, pocket square and lapel pin, or lapel pin and tie).
